Afro-Caribbean Soundscapes
El Marchante, a Project of circulation and archiving of Latin American Music based in Caracas and California, is pleased to present a sonic exhibition with the aim of drawing a map of Latin American and Caribbean sounds. In this opportunity we will focus our energies in tracing and building connections with Afro-Caribbean music. The visibilization of these artistic manifestations, often made illegible (or inaudible), challenge geopolitical and disciplinary divisions of the region, pointing at new and old connections which follow a tactile and auditory logic, built in alliance with the African Presence in its interaction with indigenous art and knowledge, and coming to terms with colonial history and the territory.
This proposal does not intent to be an exhaustive indexing of Afro-Caribbean music, nor an elegy or monumentalization of the past, it is, rather, a provocation, a scream, and a movement which destabilizes certainties and favors new conversations.
